G M Sharp, independent family funeral services offer a personal and dignified service in Pocklington, and Market Weighton, while also covering the areas of York, Driffield Stamford Bridge, Dunnington, Beverly, Holme Upon Spalding Moor, and all surrounding villages. We are well known for our compassionate and personal attitude employing highly trained funeral directors including arguably the most experienced and trusted lady funeral director in York.
We currently have branches in Pocklington and Market Weighton with a third opening later this year.
In 1997 we undertook a major modernisation and purchased 27a new street, in central Pocklington. Located on the old Eric-Lee electrical repair site with access from new street (right of the old school house development) we have heavily invested in creating a calm and peaceful environment stocked with industry leading technology to give the best service possible to all of our clients no matter what their individual needs.
In market weighton we operate under the name of 'G M Sharp incorporating Layton & Sons'. Established in the 1880’s by the Layton’s family, Layton and Sons is Market Weighton’s longest established and most experienced funeral directors. The Layton’s family and Sharp's often worked together and the two family funeral directors supported and helped each other for many years. This explains why in 1994, when the Layton’s family retired, Sharp's was the only successor whom they trusted to upkeep the good name and family values of Layton and Sons Funeral Directors. Since this point we have ran Laytons as a family and slowly incorporated the G M Sharp name, to offer transparancy while also keeping the traditional routes of the company alive.
We are excited to announce a new branch will be opening later this year, a great deal of time, effort and thought has gone into this decision and we look forward to making the announcement publically. Please come back to this page for further updates.
All our funeral homes house private chapels of rest, these are spaces designed to be a dignified and comforting resting place.
Our chapels allow your loved ones to remain at peace in the community they called home.
In 1997 we undertook major modernisation and purchased 27a new street, in central Pocklington. Here we have been able to create a peaceful and comfortable environment, where final arrangements can be made and families are able to say goodbye to their loved ones in our private chapel of rest.
In 2001 we renovated 4 church side, Market Weighton, enabling the provision of a private chapel of rest. This is a respectful funeral home where final arrangements can be made and families are able to say goodbye to their loved ones.
